The Green Way to Advertise

A concept that kicked off in Amsterdam back in 2008, it began when a creative talent named Jim Bowed met Netherlands Green Guru Eckart Wintzen, who encouraged him to create marketing materials without using paper or ink. Jim then put on his thinking cap and began envisioning cleaning up a dirty area to create a message out of the clean space left behind. And voila, GreenGraffiti was born.

Worldwide supporters of GreenGraffiti firmly protest that it's about time that the business models of the past 100 years were challenged. "We believe that advertising can play an active role in providing positive communication solutions, but with lower impact on the environment." And it's certainly not just about advertising, what with the company being very keen on jazzing up public spaces with pretty scenery and even creating nicer environments within towns for kids to play in. In return for allowing Eco Street Ads to use this medium, we assist each shire by cleaning down all the local children's play park equipment and submit a percentage of our income to the respective shire's chosen charity.

It's also about sustainable public communication and can be as simple as directional signs for public facilities to save on materials such as paper, ink, plastics, metal etc. We feel that by using collected rainwater and recycling it for this purpose, is a perfect way to provide a sustainable media to carry out our work. We use local businesses to produce our artwork and our stencils.

And this is perhaps the most interesting part of it all. Any slogan, shape or pattern can actually be 'written' or 'inscribed' on a wall or pavement without using any materials at all. How so exactly? You just put a stencil onto a given surface and then use high pressure recycled rainwater which takes the dirt away and leaves an imprint. With the term 'graffiti' still holding a connotation of criminal activity in Australia we have chosen to drop the use of the word and we began by designing our brand focusing on it's environmental benefits. Hence ECO STREET ADS was born. Our stencils are produced from 1.2mm stainless steel and remain in our possession and each one can produce ten's of thousands of messages before needing to be reproduced. The ads / messages last between one to five months depending on their location and exposure to traffic and soils.

This new method can help our clients to increase their visibility in public while projecting a more responsible image. "It's all about being Non-destructive along the way, encouraging business and corporate bodies to THINK SMART when considering how to promote themselves their ideas or their products and services and setting a good example to the rest of society by leading the way in attempting to reduce carbon emissions." Change is on its way. "This is new, edgy and it's funky. Most importantly...

IT STANDS OUT AND CATCHES PEOPLES ATTENTION

Australia's population is slowly becoming more environmentally aware. So far - just through word of mouth - people seem to think it's a great idea." We are keen to work with various municipalities to brighten up public spaces or promote public announcement messages targeted to specific areas, the possibilities are endless.

This of course raises debate around the legality of reverse graffiti in and around city centers with no obvious laws against the new concept. "This public space issue is a bit of a grey area. We have our principles and respect for public space," "Obviously we would always stay away from public monuments and churches. But this is about being environmentally friendly, not about destroying places but putting something back. And even if a specific stencil is used for an event it can then easily be cleaned away." Looks like all things green are set to become real head turners this season.

100% Recycled Water

Rainwater is our chosen media. We have collection tanks that store rainwater which is filtered and clean enough to drink. However we use this to high pressure clean your message and as fast as it hits the ground it is retrieved, filtered and returned to the fresh water tank for re-use. This also means we are completely stand alone and can place your advert almost anywhere.

Environmentally Friendly

We do not use any chemicals or other harmful materials to produce the advertisements. And because we use rainwater we are not wasting water that has been treated and ready for drinking. Our water filters are washable and not disposable and so we do not add to the landfill problem.

Non-Polluting

We recover the water we use, this gets filtered and re-used. By doing this we ensure that the waste water does not enter street drains or other water courses. If in the event out vacuum fails and water does escape in to these areas, we can be confident that the only contaminant in the water will be the dirt which we just removed from the surface.

We work closely with Kanyana Engineering in Mandurah and can produce almost any size advert depending on your needs. The only factor that will restrict the size of your advertisement is it’s chosen location.
